Prior to law school, J.D. was involved in real estate development and construction as owner or joint venture partner in a variety of construction businesses.  As a contractor, J.D.'s projects included residential, commercial and industrial construction, public projects, oil field, pipeline and heavy equipment, hotels and chain restuarants, manufacturing and distribution centers, warehousing, senior living and nursing facilities, commercial storage, infrastructure, libraries, schools, airports, firehouses, lift stations, roads, bridges and more.

As attorney, J.D. has represented virtually every construction industry participant. He also has significant experience in non-construction commercial matters.  A long-time member of the American Arbitration Associations (“AAA”) National Panel of Construction Arbitrator’s and Roster of Neutrals, J.D. often serves as sole arbitrator or arbitration panel member, including as panel chair.  J.D.'s ADR practice includes a growing number of ad hoc and/or non-administered proceedings; particularly in construction, engineering, power, energy and contract-related commercial disputes.  J.D. is a strong, knowledgeable arbitrator and an adaptive mediator who stays true to the core concept of self determination  while favoring a firm, evaluative approach for most commercial disputes.
